Transplant Center
The heart transplant program at The Nebraska Medical Center has consistently achieved patient and graft survival rates that exceed the national averages and has earned Medicare designation. Experienced specialists in heart failure and heart transplantation have helped patients from across Nebraska and around the country. We are the only medical center in the region with a nationally certified heart specialist in heart failure. We are also the only medical center in the region with both Medicare designated heart transplantation and an integrated Joint Commission certified heart failure program.
In addition to the heart transplantation program, we offer a Mechanical Assist Device support program. This program meets the needs of patients who require immediate assistance while waiting for an appropriate match on the heart transplant list.
Our heart transplant team offers patients renowned specialists, comprehensive care and support from pre-evaluation to long-term follow-up care. Heart failure and heart transplant patients benefit from the center’s multi-disciplinary team of physicians, psychologists, social workers, dietitians and nurses. These professionals guide the patients through a comprehensive process to determine whether a transplant is necessary, and if the patient is an eligible candidate
